A place you can only fly

2026-08-24

One of the five new captures offers a single way through it. Deciding to say that out loud was the harder half.

Every place on this site has offered a menu: drive it, walk it, ride it, fly it. Not every place offers all four, and the home page has shown that honestly since last week, but each of them has always offered at least two.

One of the captures that went live yesterday offers one. It is the underground car park of a hotel in Gstaad, and it is a sealed concrete deck: no daylight, no pavement, no route in on foot, and about 2.9 metres between the floor and the slab overhead. Listing it beside the towns with a walk button would have put a pedestrian somewhere a pedestrian cannot get to, which is the kind of small lie a site tells when it wants every row to look the same.

So it declares one verb and the grid prints one button. The machinery underneath had to learn that too. It used to hand out walking, riding and flying together on the argument that no capture supports one without the others. This is that capture.

A missing button is information. It is the difference between a catalogue and a menu.
