A harbour town, and the editor behind every place

2026-09-27

Muggia arrives on foot, a car park leaves, the Reddit threads get a proper home on the front page, and a word about Wascape Studio.

The new place is Muggia, the old town on the Italian coast by Trieste. tosolini walked its alleys with a laser scanner and shared the result under CC BY 4.0, which makes it the first capture here since Ludlow that comes with a licence anyone can read. At 33 million splats it is also the largest place in the game so far.

It has no car, and that was measured rather than guessed. The physics runs outside the browser too, so before a place gets a car I drive it there first: every heading from the start, then a scan of the whole town for somewhere better. The best run anywhere in Muggia was under twelve metres before a wall. These are lanes and steps, built for people, so you walk them or fly over them. No bicycle either.

Gstaad is off the list for now. It was an underground car park, the weakest picture of the set and the one I kept apologising for. Its files are kept, so it can come back if it earns it.

The demo went up on Reddit earlier this month, in r/threejs, r/SideProject and r/indiegames. The first two now sit under the recorded drive on the front page, drawn as the posts they are, with a frame from each video. They are links, not embeds, so nothing from Reddit loads until you choose to open one.

And the part the demo does not show. Every place here has to be made: a video or a scan has to become a clean scene the engine can stream. That is what Wascape Studio is for, at studio.wascape.com. You bring a video, a set of photos or a scan you already have, clean it with box, lasso, sphere and brush selections, pull out the floaters, frame it, and export the same formats the game streams. It runs in the browser. Its screenshots on the front page are smaller now and sit side by side, because they support the demo rather than compete with it.
